About

About

Looking for a medico-legal expert?

I am a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist. I have extensive experience in undertaking medico-legal assessments; I regularly prepare high-quality reports on a number of psychiatric issues for a variety of courts, including criminal court, civil court, immigration tribunals and Mental Health Review Tribunals. I have authored in excess of 500 reports in my career.

I have a quality control system for my work - I am the co-founder of the North London Medico-Legal forum – a Continued Professional Development Group for psychiatric medico-legal experts, where we regularly assess each others reports, and give each other feedback.

sohomdas

I am based in North London, and work as the Lead Psychiatrist for the Harrow Crown Court and Willesden Magistrate’s Court Liaison & Diversion Scheme, in an NHS contract.

I work part-time in my prison and court roles in order to dedicate a significant proportion of my working week towards developing my passion; medico-legal work. As such, I am able to turn around reports faster than most of my peers; I am generally able to see clients within 7 to 10 days of being instructed and submit reports within a further week. My current turn-over is around 2 - 3 full medico-legal reports per week. I have not missed a deadline for a report in my career.

For civil work, 50% if for the claimant, 30% for the defendant and 20% is joint instruction.

I offer unlimited free telephone consultations to solicitors about any medico-legal case.

My consultation rooms are based in North London, though I am able to travel to assessments.

Testimonials

Sohom is prompt in response, flexible in seeing clients at their convenience, and is conscientious in penning articulate comprehensive reports that comfortably withstands any attempted scrutiny. The speed in which he can procure a report is one of several factors as to why Sohom stands out amongst the rest. Upon instruction, Sohom generally will seek to assess the clients within three weeks, and have finalised reports back to you in two. There have been occasions when Sohom has expedited the report, on request, to then have that very report with me only days after the assessment. Most importantly, my clients have, on their own volition, reported back that Sohom dealt with them in a ‘calm’, ‘patient’, and ‘sensitive’ manner, and feel like they ‘were listened to’.

I have been working in Medico-legal practice for 15 years in over 200 cases. In my opinion, Dr Das’ reports are of an extremely high quality. Something I commented upon when first seeing one of his reports. Since then, I have noted that his assessments and reports are thorough, reasonable, robust, logical, focussed and well stated. His thinking is transparent and evidence based. Clients who have been assessed by him who I have seen in therapy speak highly of his interview style and professionalism. I have no hesitation in recommending him as an expert.
